Has God called you to ministry? Though all Christians are called to serve the cause of Christ, God calls certain persons to serve the Church as pastors, other as ministers, teachers and leaders. Writing to young Timothy, the Apostle Paul confirmed that if a man aspires to be a pastor, “it is a fine work he aspires to do” (1 Tim 3:1, NASB). Likewise, it is a high honor to be called of God into the ministry of the Church.
So if you believe that God is calling you to serve Him, it's time to answer his call and find out what's in store for your life. Part of answering God's calling is the process of discernment Prayer, and talking with other Christians, is the best way to start. Consider the options that are before you, consider the talents God has given you, and consider what needs you can fill. Your call to salvation included your call to service. They are the same. Regardless of your current job or career, you are called to full-time Christian service. A "non-serving Christian" is a contradiction in terms.
The question then is "how do I best fulfill that call?" In Second Timothy, chapter 2, verse 15 we read: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (KJV)
Depending on your particular call from God, you may find it necessary to continue your education to gain the skills and knowledge required to fulfill that call. The Bible tells us that when we surround ourselves with wise counsel our goals and direction in life will be established (Proverbs 11:14; 15:22; 24:6).
